Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Foundation?
The Wingham & District Hospital Foundation is a not-for-profit registered charitable foundation that was incorporated in 1976. The Foundation was established to raise funds on behalf of the Wingham & District Hospital. All funds raised by the Foundation go towards purchasing innovative and up to date equipment, funding education programs, and building improvements for the Hospital so that we can continue providing our community with the best possible healthcare.

Where is Wingham & District Hospital Foundation located?
The Foundation office is located at the Hospital within the switchboard area. It is the first door on the right when entering through the visitor's entrance. The Hospital is located at 270 Carling Terrace, Wingham ON, N0G 2W0.

When can I visit the Foundation office?
The office is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you would like to arrange a visit outside of these times please contact Nicole Jutzi at wdh.foundation@lwha.ca or 519-357-3903.

How are funds raised?
Funds are raised through direct mail appeals, major gift solicitations, grants and through a series of fundraising events that are held throughout the year. Donations are also made to the Foundation in memoriam, in honour of special events, as legacy gifts, and as bequests.

Does the Foundation decide which projects receive funding?
No. Each year, the Foundation receives a list of priority programs and equipment needs from the Wingham & District Hospital. The Hospital conducts an extensive capital planning process involving our healthcare professionals and key stakeholders who prioritize equipment needs for the Wingham & District Hospital each year. You can see a list of some of the current projects Urgent Needs.

Why is the Foundation necessary?
The Foundation is necessary because government funding is not sufficient to provide all the required equipment, technology, services and programs. The full cost of equipment has always been the responsibility of the Hospital. The funds must come from the people who use the services of the local healthcare system and the Foundation is here to facilitate that giving, purchasing of new equipment/technology, replacing existing equipment, and funding of programs. We strive to provide out healthcare professionals with the most up to date and highest quality equipment to diagnose and treat all the patients at the Wingham & District Hospital.
